Masculine Birthday Card

This is another quick card I made for my Father-in-Law. He loves fishing, so this was right on time.  He loved it! He truly is the best!!

Ninja Turtle Birthday Card

I made this quick card for one of my favorite little men who is turning 4 this weekend. I can't attend his birthday party, so "Auntie" had to make him a card featuring his favorite characters. Who doesn't love the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?

Card in a box ( X-tra Large)

Happy Friday Everyone!!  I hope you are having a Fab-Scraptic Day!!

I finally braved the waters and tried my hand at the latest craze-----Card in a Box. You can see my very first one here on my blog. I was a bit intimidated until I found one in the Silhouette Store. It's a Lori Whitlock Box Card. I figured I would fare much better letting my machine do the cutting and measuring. I like big cards! With that being said, I decided to venture out to see if I could make a larger one, and I did!

Here's one I did for my friend who is a teacher as well as a cheerleading coach. You may actually see it before she does. It's been hard to catch up with her lately.

Here's how I made it:

I started out by increasing the size of the design in the Silhouette store to 17 inches wide and 7 inches high. Using a 12 x 24 mat I cut out the box using The DCWV 12 x 24 inch card stock. My friends and I picked up a couple packs of these a few years ago when T.J. Maxx was clearing them out for $5.50 each. I always knew they would come in handy one day! lol.

I did not realize, until I had cut out the box, that this particular cardstock is adhesive backed!. So I had to decorate each side to keep them from sticking together.

 I didn't mind though, it was fun putting the colors together. Here are the 2 covered inserts

Once I had all my adhesive sides decorated, I began the construction: 

You then add your cut-outs, flowers or whatever embellishments you like to finish.

Here's the box folded up. Now keep in mind, the folded box card is 8 x 7 so you will need a large envelope for mailing.

Cricut Explore Cards

I purchased the Cricut Explore from HSN recently, to give it a try.After all, I have 30 days to decide if I want to keep it, right?  First let me state, this is my opinion only. I am not endorsing or denouncing this machine and it's software.  You will need to do your own research and choose what bet suits your needs.

I will say that I am impressed with this machine's cutting ability.  It does cut extremely well, even heavy glitter paper. I love heavy glitter paper and up until now, I could not get a clean cut on any machine without double/triple/quadruple cutting along with some additional hand cutting. I also like how the software puts the layers on the different mats for you and lays them out in the software, in the order they should be placed. This makes it easier to see what goes where on an image, especially those little pieces that I always had left over after a project (like the Disney Princesses). Oh yeah, the write and cut feature is pretty neat too.
Now, I am not totally happy with the software. It has a few glitches and hang ups that are annoying. I am guaranteed to get at least one error per night of use.The one I get the most is "your machine is not connected to your computer" and it is. I have to re-start my Explore. I also get a lot of "your machine is already in use" errors. Hopefully this will be rectified with future updates.  I don't  like the fact that it takes too many steps to do simple things, like welding.  It also does not have a shadow feature, at this point. You can only work on one project at a time, not good if you're in a hurry.  I think the software is great for someone new to using SVG's and uploading pics, but if you have ever used MTC, SCAL or the Silhouette Design Studio, you may get aggravated with it quickly.

The good part is that since I own almost 300 cartridges, I now I can  fall back in love with using them effortlessly.  So look out, you may see more "cutesy" animal and people cards coming your way!

I used Sesame Street Friends, Easter 2010, Easter Magic and the MS All Occasion cakes cartridges.

Next one:

This is one of the cards from the Cricut store.  This is the heavy glitter paper I was telling you about.  It did very well on this and I did not even use the deep cut blade on it.

Next one:

I used Dr's Check-up mostly, but I had to use my Cameo for the "Soon" and shadow, table and flower.
See, they play well together!

Write and cut (not to be confused with the Silhouette's print and cut) Print and cut is promised "to be coming" around November. This is the card I think every Explore owner made first just to see it in action.

The Explore comes with the silver pen (middle pic). I used my American Crafts pens for the blue and the red. The Explore will use the medium point and the fine point pens. It will not work with the bold point pens as the tip is not long enough to reach the mat. Pretty neat.

Will I keep the Explore? Of course I will silly!! I love gadgets, machines and bling!!  I have to keep it!!

Golf Birthday Card

Another birthday card. It's for a minister who is an avid golfer.  I had to rack my brain to come up with this one, but it was fun!

Card in a Box!

My very first one! I made this one for a my special cousin on her birthday, along with a matching money holder. I will admit that I cheated though.  I did not hand measure anything! Why, when my Cameo can do it all!! lol
I suspect there will be a lot more of these in my future!

I forgot to take a "purdy" picture of the money holder, but here it is!

Sister Birthday Card

Here's a card I made for someone special for her sister.  I used the K&C Company Que Sera Sera Paper stack. I colored the wood butterfly veneer with my Copics markers.  I used my Cameo for the sentiment on the front and inside. This was fun to make.  Inspired from Pinterest.

Nurse Birthday Card

This is another birthday card I was asked to make for someone who is a nurse, couldn't tell could ya? lol

I designed the scrub top in my Silhouette software.  I like how it turned out.

I love this font, Adam Gorry Light.  I think it's perfect for Happy Birthday!
